HEALING : A BRIEF SUMMARY

Healers in ESO have the responsibility to keep the DD’s and Tanks alive with their healing skills while also providing several group buffs that increase damage, reduce damage taken etc. A good healer finds a balance between these two very important factors. This guide will help you set up your healer, guide you through the basics and hopefully prepare you on your journey as a Healer

HEALING : WHY IS A GOOD HEALER IMPORTANT?

The answer to this question might seem obvious, but it’s a little bit more complicated than that. Firstly, a good Healer manages to keep the group alive. By pumping out a lot of heals, you can outheal a lot of incoming damage, making the Tank and DD’s job significantly easier, because they can focus on their respective roles instead of constantly healing themselves. Secondly, a good Healer provides a lot of buffs, making the fight a lot easier. A single Healer can increase group damage by 10-15% with the right skills, but can also provide defensive buffs or help with resource sustain. Last but not least, a Healer can provide a lot of Synergies, which instantly give resources back, which increases group survivability. It can also proc sets like Alkosh, which reduces enemy resistances. All this combined will help out significantly in actual content.

HEALING : THE DO’S AND THE DON’TS

This is what a Healer should do :
Stand BEHIND the Group
Heal the Group
Provide Buffs to the Group
Provide Synergies

Here is what a Healer should AVOID :

Run around like a headless chicken : You won’t be able to provide Heals to the Group
Get resurects : Leave this to the DD’s unless you are specifically asked to get them
Ask for heals : You are a Healer, you can Heal yourself.

HEALING: PROPER POSITIONING

This is one of the most important things you need to understand as a Healer. The image below (source : Healers Haven) shows you how you should position yourself. As you can see, the Healers stand behind the DPS. The reason for this is because of all the AOE Heals, which are also included in this image. If you stand directly behind your DD’s and form a straight line behind the boss, your entire group can benefit from your heals! If you move out of group, your group won’t benefit from skills like Combat Prayer or Refreshing Path for example, which can be extremely handy to have. Moving out of group also means you will take a lot more incoming damage, which you want to avoid. A dead Healer is a useless Healer.

While any class can heal in ESO, there are two which are easy for beginners and serve you well in end game content : Templar and Warden.

⭐️ Templar : They have one of the largest AOE heals, have excellent emergency healing with Honor The Death and they passively provide Minor Sorcery, increasing the groups Spell Damage. They can also consistently provide Synergies with Luminous Shards.

Warden : Wardens are maybe the best Healer in ESO. Not only do they increase your Health by 10% for 20 seconds every time they Heal you, they also have access to group wide Major Resolve, which truly increases group survivability. Their heals are also relatively cheap and have access to multiple synergies. They also have access to Minor Vulnerability, which increases the damage enemies take by 5%, via the Swarm ability and its morphs. Every trial should have a Warden Healer.

Other nice options include Arcanist and Necromancer, but these are less beginner friendly. Warden and Healer are very desired in any trial group, so I suggest starting out with these two classes.

HEALING : WHAT RACE TO PICK

There are only two options I would consider for Healing.

Breton : Increased Magicka and 7% cost reduction of Magicka skills. This is excellent for sustain and ensures you can consistently heal for days.
High Elf : Increased Magicka and you restore resources when you use a class ability. The extra Weapon and Spell damage increases your overal healing effectiveness as well.

A less common option, but still a decent one, is Argonian. They have a passive Healing increase, increasing your healing done by 6%.

HEALING : MUNDUS STONE

There is only one option here as a beginner : The Ritual. With 7 pieces in Divines, it increases your Healing done by 13%. Don’t overthink it, just pick the Ritual.

Food:

Food options depend on the type of content you will be doing. In general, you want food that gives you Max Health and Max Magicka, as you don’t really need the sustain much as a Healer, since you will provide that with your skills and potions. Good options to use are Arteum Pickled Fish Bowl and Solitude Salmon - Millet Soup

Potions :

There is only 1 type of potion you should use : Essence of Spell Power : It gives you Magicka back, helps with sustain and increases your Spell Power, which increases your Healing done! You can craft them or buy them on Guild Traders. If you have enough AP, you can buy Alliance Spell Draughts as well, which is the same potion

I’ll keep this brief. This setup is the most common and effective. There are variations, but I would stick to the following :

Front Bar : Restoration staff with Powered Trait, enchant Absorb Magicka or Weapon Damage, either is fine.
Back Bar : Destruction staff with Infused Trait, Crusher enchantment to lower enemy resistances.
Body pieces : Divines with Magicka enchantments
Jewelry : 1 Arcane, 2 Infused, Spell Damage glyphs

These are the essentials for a beginner healer. You might need to adjust depending on the content you will do, but these will serve you well.

Blue Tree : Soothing Tide, Swift Renewal, Enlivening Overflow, From The Brink

Red Tree : Boundless Vitality, Fortified, Celerety, Expert Evasion

There isn’t much variation when it comes to Healer gear to be completely honest. I’ll provide two setups which you want to have on you at all times.

Spell Power Cure (White Gold Tower, body pieces) + Pillagers Profit (Dreadsail Reef, Frost Staff + Jewelry). SPC provides constant Minor Courage, increasing the groups Damage whenever you overheal. PP helps with Ultimate generation.

Jorvulds Guidance (Scalecaller Peak, body pieces) + Roaring Opportunist (Lightning Staff + Jewelry) : Also known as the RoJO setup. Jorvulds increases the duration of all buffs and damage shields you apply by 40%. Roaring Opportunist provides Major Slayer, which increases damage done by 10% by X seconds. The duration of this effect increases by 40% because of Jorvulds Guidance!

Monster Sets :

Ozezan the Inferno : Provides 4272 Armor and Minor Vitality, increasing Healing recieved by 8%, for 1.1 seconds whenever you overheal. I would recommend using this with SCP, as it has the same proc condition.

Symphony of Blades : When you heal a group member who is under 50% of their primary resource, grant them Meridia's Favor, which restores 570 Magicka or Stamina every 1 second for 6 seconds. This effect can occur every 18 seconds per target. This set is used to help the DD’s regain resources.

Sentinel of Rkugumaz : You summon a spider that heals you or an ally and provides them with resources. Very easy to get and reliable.

Arena Weapons :

Grand Rejuvination (Dragonstar Arena) : The most common arena weapon used in 99% of situations. Whenever you cast Grand Healing and its morphs, it also restores Magicka and Stamina for 6 seconds. It’s a must have for Healers.
Menders Ward (Blackrose Prison) : Whenever you use Steadfast Ward and its morphs, you apply Major Vitality, increasing Healing taken by 16%. This is less common, but extremely handy in specific scenarios like vSS HM.

If you want specific Healer Builds for your class, check out the Healers Haven Discord Server. It’s by far the best source of information about Healing in this game and the only one I would recommend.

If you want to practice your healing, do random vet dungeons and see how you get on. It will be chaotic, but you’ll learn to manage your resources, healing priorities etc. It’s a trial by fire basically, but it works.

If you need to level your Assault and Support Skill lines, but you don’t like PVP : Go into Cyrodiil and repair walls and doors. While slow, it’s easy AP, which levels the skill line. You can also use Colovian War Torte to boost this process. You can also do Town Daily Quests, which is the PVE component of Cyrodiil and levels the skill line.
